175 posts · Joined 2002. #1 · Jan 1, 2006. ive got the money up and im going to get rid of my worked over 882 head on my sbc 400. im looking at a set of world sportsman ll heads with 200cc intake runners and 72cc chambers. im running 9.5:1 flat tops with 76cc heads so my comp. ratio would go up just a little. will these heads work well with ...HVH currently powers the fastest small block Chevy in the world on street tires and through mufflers. Oct 13, 2006 · 882's are the "Best" of the worst heads. They are the heavy weight casting. As noted, they are crack prone thru the center exhaust seats. They will flow fairly well if the intake side is port matched and the upper part of the exhaust port is blended. According to Chevy High Performance the Dart Iron Eagle SS 165 heads flow worse than the 882's but the combustion chamber size will probably work with your combo. The 882 is a heavy weight casting that has the same port shape as a 624 casting, they have induction hardened exhaust seats, they could have either 1.72' or 1.94" intake valves hopefully yours have the larger valves, I think a set from a Corvette would have 2.02 ...

3. Cutting heads quite depends on the head and the deck thickness. Some you can cut .185 nad some you can only get .005. A general rule of thumb for street engine is a .030 cut or more reqiures correcting the intake face and spoting the bolt holes. Race it, break it, fix it and repeat.
